Learning the Vowels

Our class has been learning the difference between vowels and consonants. To remember the vowels we used puppets and learned a song:
5 Little vowel boys - are we.
There's A, and O, and I, and E.
There's another brother too.
He's the one who's known as U.
Each child got to go in front of the class and make the puppet move as we sang our vowel song. They held their puppet up in the air when we sang the name of their vowel. It was a fun way to review the vowels.

Math lesson using M and M's

We had a math lesson using M&M candies. We measured the candies into a cup. Then we estimated how many pieces we thought we had in our cup. Next, we counted to find the actual number of M&M's we had. We sorted the candies by color, counted and wrote the number for each color on our paper. After that we made a graph showing how many pieces of each individual color we had. Lastly... we ate our M&M's! Yummy! It was a fun way to learn to sort, organize, and graph.

Summer Vacation

After my oldest son returned from a stay in India, my family and I spent a week at a cottage on Lake Manitou. We celebrated my oldest son's birthday. The boys had fun canoeing and skiing. I'm anxious to go to school, meet the first graders and listen to stories about what they did on their summer vacation.
