Our class visited the Hoosier Wax Museum which was presented by the 4th grade class in Howard school's gym. Each student picked a famous Hoosier, researched them, and prepared a report about that person. Then they made a background prop for that person. The entire school got to listen to interesting facts about all of the famous people who lived in Indiana. We pushed a button on their hand to make them talk. We went to a Wax Museum without ever leaving Howard Elementary. What a fun way to learn about Indiana History!

Valentine Party
Our class made Valentine bags by cutting hearts to make and decorate a clown face. After the sacks were finished, we put them in ABC order according to our first names. Everyone mailed their Valentines to all their friends. On Friday, we all opened our Valentines. We found out we have lots of sweethearts and lots of people who love us! We got to make our own sundae during the party... even though it was a Friday! Ha! What a fun party.

Groundhog Day
February 2nd was Groundhog day. We made groundhog ears to wear, and learned that a groundhog is a mammal. It is a rodent. We learned that a groundhogs incisor teeth continue growing throughout their life. Groundhog is another name for Woodchuck. How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood? We found out what hibernate means... and that before coming out of his burrow, the groundhog goes into hibernation. We heard the groundhog saw his shadow. So there will be 6 more weeks of winter. Happy Groundhog's day!
Learning Centers
We were very busy during learning centers this week. We had a 'Store' center where the children had to count out dimes, nickels and pennies to pay for items. Then they had to count the total amount of all the coins. We also had a Groundhog game using Reading vocabulary and words ending with 'y'. For the Trading Post Center, the children learned to trade 5 pennies for a nickel, 2 nickels for a dime, and 2 dimes and 1 nickel for a quarter. The children played 'Bucking Bronco' on the computer which helped them do math facts quickly or they would get bucked off the horse. We are continuing our quest to write to 1000. Lots of hard work at centers... but always lots of fun!

Special Person of the Week
Our special person of the week lives in a one-story trailer, with her mom, her dad, and her brother. She’s not sure what it looks like… Her mom just knows where they live. She also has a grandpa, a grandma, and also another grandma. She has a dog named Sammy and a cat named Kitty. Her favorite colors are pink and purple, because purple and pink make her feel good. Her favorite subject is ‘coloring’ because she likes to make pretty pictures. Her favorite TV show is ‘Sponge Bob’ and her favorite books are Dr. Seuss books. She likes to eat Tacos. She likes to play outside. She feels happy when she plays outside. When she grows up, she wants to be a teacher because she can help people learn. If she could go anywhere in the world, she would go to Florida. She feels she is special because she is smart and is a happy person. She feels the best thing about her is that she acts good.
