Space Camp
Our class participated in Space Camp learning centers last week. We learned about the planets orbiting around the sun and gravity. We learned about landing the shuttle by trying to land paper airplanes in a specific area. We learned about weightlessness by working to put together nuts and bolts under water. We learned about rocket power by blowing up balloons and shooting them to the moon. We tried to catch marshmellows in the air, and we tried to correct an emergency without being able to see. Our Space Camp was a fun way of learning about Space.

St. Patrick's Day
Water Safety Lessons at Northwestern
The first grade classes traveled to Northwestern High School for lessons in water safety. We learned to do the bob and get our heads under water. We learned to blow bubbles. Mrs. Britten taught us the front float, back float, freestyle and backstroke. Those children who wanted to, could go off the diving board in the deep end. We learned a lot!

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss
In celebration of Dr. Seuss' birthday, we had centers dealing with books Dr. Seuss has written. We had a Reading center, made 'Cat in the Hat' hats to wear for the rest of the day, and played a graphing game using several of his books. We graphed them after we pulled them out of a 'Cat in the Hat' bag. We read along with books on the internet, and played a strategy game with dice and striped 'Cat in the Hat' hats. We will continue doing Dr. Seuss activities. We will be doing many activities involving rhyming words. What a fun day!
