The kindergarten through 2nd grades at Howard Elementary celebrated the 50th day of school with learning stations all about the 50's.  The children learned to play Pick-up-sticks and Jacks.  The put together 50 piece puzzles of the United States, played Hop-scotch, Jump rope and Hula hoop.  They went to a pretend drive in and watched 'The Little Rascals' movie while eating a hotdog, potato chips and drinking a rootbeer float.  In the craft room they framed and decorated a picture of themselves in their 50's attire.  They went to the Library to learn about the real Dick and Jane books.  (Mrs. Stites learned to read using those books!)  Then the children topped off the day with a Sock Hop featuring Sandy and the Tooth Fairy.  What a fun way to celebrate the 50th day of school!

50th Day of School

The kindergarten, 1st and 2nd graders celebrated the 50th day of school with very fun activities. Everyone dressed in 50's style clothing. The children went to 6 different rooms of learning centers about the 50's. We jumped rope and sang Teddy Bear, Teddy Bear, played Hopscotch, and Hoola-hoops in one room. We learned to play Jacks and Pick-up sticks, did a puzzle of the 50 United States, made a picture frame for our very own picture, and read Dick and Jane books. We also went to a pretend drive-in and had hotdogs, chips and a rootbeer float while watching a black and white DVD of 'The Little Rascals'. We culminated the activities with a sock hop in the cafeteria which featured the DJ's 'Sandra Dee and the Tooth Fairy'! What a fun way to celebrate 50 days of school!

Celebrating the 50th day of school

Our class celebrated the 50th day of school by dressing like they did in the 1950's. We joined with the kindergarten through 2nd grades and participated in six centers dealing with 50's. We played Pick up sticks and Jacks, put together 50 piece puzzles of the United States, did the hoola hoop, jump rope, and Hop scotch, read and learned about Dick and Jane books, went to a drive-in rootbeer stand, and decorated a picture frame to put our picture in. The afternoon culminated with a 50's day sock hop in the cafeteria. We had our own DJ 'The Toothfairy' to guide us through the songs and dances like the Twist, Hand-jive, Hokey Pokey, the Bunny hop, and many more. Everyone had lots of fun dancing. It was a fun day!
