Making Bread and Butter

Getting ready to grind the wheat.  We learned how wheat is grown and how it becomes whole wheat flour.

Following directions to make whole wheat No Knead bread.

Learning how to crack an egg.

The yeast made the dough rise.

The dough is ready to put in the oven.

Yummm!  The bread is  cooked and smells delicious!

Shaking heavy whipping cream that was at room temperature to make our own buttermilk and butter.
Buttering the bread we made.

We are good cooks!

This bread and butter is yummy!
Mrs. Stites children read, compared and contrasted many versions of 'The Little Red Hen'.  We also learned about how wheat is grown and ground our own wheat seeds.  Then we followed directions on the recipe to make Whole Wheat No Knead bread.  All the children helped to make it.  We also shook heavy whipping cream to make butter.  The milk that separated from the butter is butter milk.  Yummy!  We are great cooks!

Making Bread and Butter

Our class made bread out of the wheat we ground up earlier this week.  We had to read the recipe and measure the correct amounts. We cracked the eggs, then poured in the flour and milk. After the bread was made we made our own butter using heavy whipping cream.  We are good cooks!  The bread and butter were delicious!

Making Bread and Butter

We used the wheat that we ground in our Pilgrim centers to make bread. We read and followed a recipe for a No-Knead bread. We learned what yeast was, how to measure using 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, and 1/4 cup. After the bread was cooked we shook whole cream which was room temperature in baby food jars and after lots of shaking... butter appeared! We drank the buttermilk that came off of the butter. Then we buttered our own bread. Yum! We are really good cooks!

Fun Making Bread and Butter

We made bread using the wheat we ground during centers last Friday. The class read and followed directions from a recipe. The whole class took turns putting in flour, eggs, water, milk, yeast, etc... After the bread had finished baking, we made our own butter by shaking whipping cream until the butter separated from the butter milk. (We drank the buttermilk. Most of us thought the buttermilk was yummy!) Then we ate our bread and butter. We are good cooks! The bread smelled wonderful and tasted delicious!
