Mrs. Stites' class joined with Mrs. Dye's class for Pilgrim and Indian centers.  The children came to Mrs. Stites' class to experience pioneer centers.  The children ground up wheat to make wheat flour they will use to make bread.  They dyed cotton yarn using blackberries and onion skins.  They will use those strings to make a shell necklace.  The children made a pioneer button toy that worked similar to a yo-yo.  And they made a ball and cup toy and tried to see how many times they could catch the ball in the cup.  Fun afternoon!

Pilgrim Centers in Mrs. Stites' Room

Both first grades joined together for learning centers about Pioneers and Indians.  While in Mrs. Stites' class the children made a yo-yo button toy.  They also learned about and ground wheat that they will use to make bread later this week.  The children dyed yarn using blackberries and onion skins.  They also made a ball and cup toy.  What a fun way to learn about pioneer living!

Pilgrim and Pioneer Learning Centers

The children in Mrs. Dye's and Mrs. Stites' class joined together for Native American Indian centers in Mrs. Dye's class... and Pioneer Centers in Mrs. Stites' class. In Mrs. Stites' class the children dyed yarn using onion skins to make brown yarn, and blueberries to make purple yarn. They also made a button yo-yo toy, and a ball and cup toy. Each child ground wheat. We will use the wheat to make bread next week. What a lot of learning and fun!
