Fun Making Bread and Butter

We made bread using the wheat we ground during centers last Friday. The class read and followed directions from a recipe. The whole class took turns putting in flour, eggs, water, milk, yeast, etc... After the bread had finished baking, we made our own butter by shaking whipping cream until the butter separated from the butter milk. (We drank the buttermilk. Most of us thought the buttermilk was yummy!) Then we ate our bread and butter. We are good cooks! The bread smelled wonderful and tasted delicious!

Thanksgiving centers in Mrs. Stites' room

Mrs. Stites' classroom was full of pioneer fun. We dyed yarn using onion skins to make the cotton string brown, and blueberries to make the cotton string purple. Each child made an old-fashioned button yo-yo toy. They also ground wheat that we will use to make bread next week. Each child also made a ball and cup toy, then tried to see how many times they could catch the ball in the cup. We felt like pioneer children. Lots of work... but lots of fun!

Thanksgiving Centers with Mrs. Dye's class

The first and second grade classes joined together for 9 centers in all three classrooms. While in Mrs. Dye's room, the children made indian headbands, indian bead necklaces, and played an indian snake stick game. They were very busy but now have things to wear to celebrate Thanksgiving. Fun times!

Thanksgiving Centers in Mrs. Irwin's room

The first and second grades joined together for 9 centers celebrating Thanksgiving. When in Mrs. Irwin's room the children made upside-down pumpkin pudding, which was delicious! They also made tee-pee's decorated with Native American sign language. Each child made a bracelet with each color of bead having a significant meaning for Thanksgiving. What a lot of fun and a lot of learning!

Principal for the Day

Principal of the Day
Our special student's name was chosen from Mrs. Stites’ class to be principal of the day. Mr. Willman drew her name from a list of all the children in Mrs. Stites’ class. Mrs. Stites’ class had the highest amount of purchases from our fall fundraiser.
While she was serving as principal, Mr. Willman had to attend Mrs. Stites’ class and do her school work.
They returned to their normal positions at the end of the day.
