Trash to Treat

The Howard County Recycling center gave a presentation to the first grade classes called "Trash to Treat". They showed us the 'recycle' symbol and taught us to look on the bottom of plastic objects for that symbol. If we see the symbol on plastic or glass, we should recycle it. We should also recycle any paper products. They taught us the 4 R's for reclycling. Re-use, reduce, re-think, and recycle. They taught us about landfills, and then we made our own landfill that we could eat. It had a plastic liner (fruit gummy roll), gravel (cocoa puffs), and trash (vanilla pudding). We sealed it with a vanilla wafer cookie, and then put grass on the top (green sprinkles). We learned that we need to take care of our Earth... and that we should consider every day as Earth Day!
