Learning Centers

Our class had Learning Centers this week. We played Bingo and Memory using our reading vocabulary words. We also played War with cards and worked on a matching game on our Apple Computers. We painted our handprints onto papers with a poem about how our hands are busy at school. Learning Centers are a fun way to do drill and practice. Lots of fun and lots of learning going on in our room!

Learning Centers

Today for learning centers our class played a 'Penny Probability' game. We tossed two pennies, and graphed how many times they landed with both on heads, both on tails, or one on heads and one on tails. We worked with a contraction matching game where the children had to find the two words that matched the contraction. When we put the two words together with the contraction, it would make a heart. We worked with a Memory game using doubles plus 1 facts, and used our new Tag Reading System from Leapfrog. How fun! We are continuing to write our numbers to 1000. We have someone who has written to 850. He will probably make it to 1000 in a couple more weeks. We are learning a lot each week... and getting smarter every day!

Learning Centers

We were very busy during learning centers this week. We had a 'Store' center where the children had to count out dimes, nickels and pennies to pay for items. Then they had to count the total amount of all the coins. We also had a Groundhog game using Reading vocabulary and words ending with 'y'. For the Trading Post Center, the children learned to trade 5 pennies for a nickel, 2 nickels for a dime, and 2 dimes and 1 nickel for a quarter. The children played 'Bucking Bronco' on the computer which helped them do math facts quickly or they would get bucked off the horse. We are continuing our quest to write to 1000. Lots of hard work at centers... but always lots of fun!

Learning Center Fun in November

During our learning centers, we worked with American sign language. Mrs. Stites made cards with our reading vocabulary. The words were spelled with hand signs for the deaf. So we had to match and figure out the words. We played SLAP! using words with blends, read a book about Thanksgiving in another center, and played Turkey Trot Bingo using blends. We made beautiful designs by weaving paper. We have been learning about how Native Americans weave beautiful blankets. We are learning a lot!
