The Galveston Fire Department brought the Smokehouse, which is funded by Ronald McDonald House Charities, to Howard School.
The firemen taught the children fire safety rules in the kitchen and livingroom. The children learned if there is a fire, they need to dial 911. It is important that they know there address so the firemen will know where to go. Children are to feel the door with the back of their hand to make sure the door is not hot before opening it. They are to crawl to stay below the smoke, and back down stairways so they won't fall. Families should always decide on a meeting place where everyone gathers when they have gotten out of their house. That way they know everyone is safe. We appreciate the Galveston Fire Department taking time to teach us about Fire Safety.
